Susan Stachler started a delicious gingersnap cookie company with her mom, Laura, after Susan was diagnosed with the same cancer that took her aunt Sue 28 years earlier. Susan’s mom was always looking for ways to cheer her up during treatment,  and she found that her perfectly snappy and ginger-y cookie did the trick. Since Susan overcame cancer, they have turned the garage-made recipe into a 10,000-cookies-a-day cookie company that ships nationwide!

Louie & Honey’s Kitchen

Virginia Hardesty and her late husband Charlie started their seafood business in 1984 by selling shrimp from the back of a truck. Since Charlie’s passing in 2013, their daughter, Chef Ashley Hardesty Armstrong, has stepped in to maintain the rich legacy of the thriving seafood market and 100-seat restaurant. Virginia and Ashley are dedicated to freshness and variety in their seafood. Plus, guests adore the homemade coleslaw, hush puppies, and other Eastern NC specialties.

Jeptha Creed

Joyce and Autumn Nethery are co-owners of Jeptha Creed Distillery and upcoming FACEs we can’t wait to introduce fully. The only mother-daughter distillery ownership team in Kentucky, they also proudly grow their own corn on a lush 64-acre farm. They sell a variety of spirits but are famous for their four-grain bourbon. In 2016, they distilled the first legal barrel of bourbon in Shelby County since prohibition.

Pam Shuler (the mother of this duo) watched her mother run an embroidery shop in the 1970s, beautifying textiles with classic and creative monograms. Continuing the family legacy, Pam started her own studio in 2016 — the same year her mother passed away.
