Whether you’re new to town or a lifelong Birmingham resident, let’s face it — it can be difficult to make new friends as an adult. Our fast-paced digital world makes good old-fashioned face-to-face interaction a little less common, and sometimes, a little more daunting. If you’re looking to expand your social circle, here are 10 fun ways to meet people in BHAM!
Experiment with a new group at The Gathering Lab.
For those who want a science-backed approach to making connections.
More info: thegatheringlab.com
All it takes is eight to 12 folks making dinner together with a little help from science. That’s the premise behind The Gathering Lab’s “The Dinner” event. They curate diverse dinner groups based on shared values and interests and provide a loosely structured evening with dinner prep, participant pairings, and conversation starters, all designed for authentic connection. Two important rules of note: no phones and no saying what you do for a living.
The science of human bonding is of particular interest to Janet King, Birmingham native and founder of The Gathering Lab. “We started The Gathering Lab because we believe it’s time for a modern solution for how we socialize, especially how we build meaningful connections in our city and workplace,” King said. Since its inception in Birmingham, The Gathering Lab has expanded into twelve cities. You can join their waitlist here.
