Maple Street Biscuit Company’s Squawking Goat

More Info: maplestreetbiscuits.com

A must-try fried chicken biscuit in Birmingham is The Squawking Goat, served at Maple Street Biscuit Company — so widely renowned that it’s been featured on Food Network! If you love the combination of cheese and pepper jelly, this is the breakfast sammie for you. It features a flaky biscuit with crispy fried chicken breast and a fried goat cheese medallion, all smothered in spicy-sweet house-made pepper jelly.

The Essential’s Brunch Reuben

Neighborhood: Downtown
More Info: essentialbham.com

The classic Reuben gets a breakfast-inspired makeover with this weekend offering at The Essential! It has all the makings of the Reuben we know and love — corned beef, fontina cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing — plus a fried egg. We love the extra richness of runny egg yolk, so we recommend a “bo round” (hashbrown) on the side so you can soak up every last drop.

Hamburger Heaven’s Breakfast Burger

Neighborhoods: Homewood + Highway 280 + Gardendale
More Info: hamburgerheaven.com

Hamburger Heaven’s breakfast menu appropriately includes an early-morning burger option — and it’s not for the faint of heart. The Breakfast Burger starts with a quarter-pound beef patty and is layered with eggs, cheese, mayo, and tomatoes. Go for the combo, which comes with hashcakes and a small coffee!

Heads up: The Breakfast Burger isn’t on the menu at the Irondale location, only the three locations listed above.

Hero’s Fried Chicken Breakfast Bun

Neighborhoods: Homewood
More Info: herodoughnutsandbuns.com

Oh, yeah. More fried chicken. But instead of a biscuit, this version comes on one of Hero’s famous breakfast buns. As if crunchy fried chicken on a fresh bun wasn’t good enough, they also layer on melted cheese, folded scrambled eggs, their signature “Cracked Sauce,” and pepper jam for a spicy-sweet finish. Go for a side of fresh fruit to balance out all the savory goodness!

Homewood Bagel Co.’s Lox Bagel

Neighborhood: Homewood
More Info: homewoodbagelco.com

Another local favorite bagel spot, Homewood Bagel Co. is serving up a wide variety of house-made bagels and spreads, both sweet and savory — but you can never go wrong with a traditional lox bagel. A pretty balanced breakfast option, this order features cream cheese, cured salmon, dill, capers, and red onion on a poppy seed bagel (but you can add tomato and avocado for a little extra oomph).
