It’s officially time to update our fall footwear! We’ve taken cues from the season’s trends and pulled together nine of our favorite fall shoes for this year. These fashion-forward boots, flats, and heels are on-trend but refined enough to carry you well into winter and beyond. Take a look!

Ballet flat
The ballet flat trend is here to stay for fall 2024. We suggest opting for a pair with straps (extra trend points if the straps have a buckle or feature a double strap), but don’t feel obligated to stick to the square-toe version shown below. Rounded and pointed-toe ballet flats are equally on-trend. Classic ballet flats with dainty bow detailing have also made a comeback for this season.
We love this Madewell pair for its under-$100 price point, vast color and fabric selection, and comfort! We can speak from personal use that these flats are comfortable enough for all-day wear and won’t result in those all-too-painful ankle blisters.
Understated cowboy boot
Some variation of the cowboy boot always seems to be in style, but this year, the trend has shifted to a more understated look — and suede is definitely in this year. To keep it understated, go for a boot height between your ankle and calf in a neutral shade like brown or black. These are a great way to add flare and interest to a night-out look without feeling too trendy.
Colorful sneaker
One of the most prominent trends for fall 2024 (in fashion, beauty, and beyond) is RED! Bright pops of red, as well as deeper wine and burgundy hues, will surely be making their way into your wardrobe this season. One fun way to incorporate them is through a colorful sneaker. These Dolce Vita sneakers are available in a ton of color combinations if red isn’t your thing, but we especially like the low profile, vintage feel, and suede touches.
Harness boot
You’ll start seeing harness boots everywhere in the coming weeks. They’re cool, chunky, a bit edgy, and especially fun to style with a flowy skirt or dress. Think of these as the fall version of summer’s sundress and white sneakers. We like the unexpected color options of this Jeffrey Campbell pair (available in camel, olive, and red), but black is a practical choice for cold weather.
Strappy kitten heel
Speaking of red, a strappy, pointed-toe kitten heel in the season’s most popular hue is a must. Straps, bows, and buckles are all popular details you’ll find on this season’s heels, and lucky for us, a comfier low kitten heel height is the go-to. We like the subtlety of this pair’s buckle and strap as well as the versatile wine-red shade and under-$150 price.
Foldover boot
Another trend appearing more for fall 2024 is the foldover boot. Wear these the same way you’d style your class tall boots — with a dress or over jeans — to elevate an ensemble while adding interest and a fashionable yet classic feel. With their skinny stiletto heel, these will easily carry you from fall into winter celebration season.
Mary Jane heel
Similar to the comeback of ballet flats, Mary Jane heels have recently experienced a resurgence in popularity. These are a stylish (and comfortable) option for girls’ night out or upcoming holiday parties. We suggest going for one with a double strap and block heel. This Madewell pair’s soft brown and suede detailing gives them an undeniably “fall” feel, but a classic leather or patent finish would be great for elevated occasions.
Platform Ugg
The platform Ugg is also sticking around this year. This one may look intimidating to style, but it’s the ultimate cozy go-to. Pair these with leggings or wide-leg jeans and an oversized sweater. Trust us, you’ll end up reaching for these daily.
Classic bootie
While some ankle booties have taken a back seat, there is always room for a tailored and classic silhouette. This Matisse pair from Tuckernuck fits the bill with a pointed toe, small heel, slightly above-the-ankle cut, and gorgeous warm brown suede. Did we mention suede is the fabric of the season?
