Established in 1987, Chef Michael Cahal dreamed of bringing a neighborhood bar and grill reminiscent of those in New Orleans to the heart of Overton Square. Now in a larger, renovated location, The Bayou Bar & Grill is Midtown’s “only true sports bar,” serving New Orleans-style Cajun specialties like po’boys, jambalaya, gumbo, oysters, red beans and rice, and more.

If sports aren’t your thing, indulge in live music and judge for yourself as this “Best Wings” contender hosts local bands on Thursdays and Saturdays!

D’Bo’s

More Info: dboswings.com

Inspired by their travels and sampling wings across the country, David and Leticia Boyd made it their mission to bring buffalo wings back home to Memphis. They set to work on creating a sauce that would “dance on the taste buds.” After about a year of experimenting with ingredients — and earning the stamp of approval from friends and family — they moved forward, setting up shop in a customized trailer complete with a kitchen sink.

While continuing their full-time jobs and raising their two young sons, the Boyds officially opened on August 2, 1990. Thanks to their signature sauce and loyal customers, D’bo’s little trailer has since expanded to multiple locations! You can find it in Memphis, Jacksonville, Chicago, Winter Haven, and Atlanta.

Huey’s

Founded in April 1970, Huey’s has a long history as a local favorite — even before it evolved from a full-service bar into a casual dining restaurant and earned its spot in our best wings roundup! Thomas Boggs was responsible for this transformation and the business’s expansion throughout the city. His legacy is carried on by his children, who lead Huey’s restaurants today.

Stop by for delectable wings and quirky charm — each location is outfitted with a hole in the ceiling and a crutch (but you’ll have to visit to find out why!)

Since then, Wing Guru has only gained momentum, becoming the official Chicken Wing partner of The University of Memphis (Billy’s alma mater) and expanding to five locations, with plans for several more. Talk about a hometown hero!
